Whose Community is it Anyway?

The Forum is running an event with Mencap  that will look at how organisations can support people to be more involved in their community. 

This promises to be a great event with lots of good speakers and it's free to all Forum members.  It will explore what community means to people, how organisations can support people to be more involved their community, and hear from people who have gained independence through their community.

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Briefing Day

10th March 2009

Technorth, Harrogate Road

The Forum are running this briefing day to look at how the deprivation of liberty safeguards will affect the way we work and support people when they are introduced in April.  The aim of the the deprivation of liberty safeguards is to provide legal protection for those people who are deprived of their liberty otherwise than under the Mental Health Act 1983, to prevent arbitrary decisions to deprive a person of liberty and gives rights to challenge depivation of liberty authorisations.  These safeguards will stengthen the rights of hospital patients and those in care homes, as well as ensuring compliances with the European Convention on Human Rights.

This event is free and organisations can reserve several places, although bookings are on a first come first served basis. The day will run from 10am until 4pm.  To book a place email me or phone 0113 270 1222.

 
 

Speed Dating Night for Adults with Learning Disabilities on 25th March 2009

Stars in the Sky Yorkshire are running a speed dating event jointly with People Matters in Leeds.

The event is taking place at Leeds University Union in The Terrace Bar on Wednesday 25th March 2009.

The speed dating starts at 7.30pm prompt and so please arrive around 6.30pm to register. The evening will finish around 9.30pm.

This event will give you an opportunity to meet new people. The cost is £6 per person.

Photography Tutor Wanted for People Matters


A photography tutor is wanted to run their Snap Happy course, which is aimed at people with learning disabilities.  Ideally the person should have a teaching qualification, but if not, willing to undergo a part time teaching course - paid for by People Matters.

The course is currently on Friday Morning - but it might be possibel to change.  It runs for 36 weeks per year.
