Leeds Voluntary Sector Learning Disabilities Forum Bulletin

Hello and welcome to our fourth fortnightly bulletin.

Please sign up to receive our bulletins and newsletters if you haven't already - it will only take a minute!  At the moment you will receive this bulletin if you are on our email list, but we will be phasing this out.

If you have anything you would like to be included in the next bulletin please email.

For information, there will be nobody at the Forum office over Christmas  from 19th December until the 5th January, and so there will be no bulletins during this period.

We hope you find this bulletin useful and wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy 2009!

Whose Community is it Anyway?

The Forum are running an event with Mencap on 25th February that will look at how organisations can support people to be more involved in their community.

This promises to be a great event with lots of good speakers and it's free to all Forum members!

To find out more about this it, and for information about how to book, go to the events area of our website.

Making Individual Service Funds Happen in Leeds

This event is for managers with a leadership role in relation to self directed support, or who may have in the future.  This is a not to be missed opportunity for providers to prepare themselves for the future.

Individual Services Funds give people who use services more control over their lives without taking on the reponsibility of managing a budget or employing staff.

The morning will be a chance to hear from organisations who have practical experience of Individual Service Funds for peole with learning difficulties including:

  • Inclusion Glasgow
  • Cornwall Partnership Trust, Home Farm Trust and United Response
  • Valueworks will introduce Shop 4 Support

The afternoon will look at the practical implications for Leeds.  The event is aimed at organisations working with people with learning difficulties, but others may also find it useful.

The event is organised by Connect in the North and costs £15.

To book contact Connect in the North on 0113 270 3233

Forum Membership Development Eight Week Project

We are offering organisations or individuals the opportunity to tender for this short project to develop the Forum’s membership.  We want to increase our membership not only to organisations that specifically work with and support people with learning disabilities, but to wider voluntary sector organisations who we can support to be more inclusive to people with learning disabilities.

The work will involve doing some research into the voluntary sector organisations working in Leeds who could benefit from being a member of the Forum.  It will include contacting key people from these organisations, introducing them to the Forum’s work and getting organisations to join the Forum as members.

We will pay up to £5000 for this piece of work and the deadline for applications is 12pm 14th January 2009.  This piece of work will be offered to an organisation or individual on a self employed basis.

For more information contact Lisa Keenan on 07827790455 or lisa@ldforum.org.uk .
